Gino Iannucci grew up in Long Island in the 80′s, avidly skateboarding and playing tennis (something he still does several times a week). And the way Gino approached both sports was influenced heavily by one of the biggest personalities of the time, and the ambassador of the original Nike Challenge Court, John McEnroe.
Gino admired the way McEnroe played tennis on his own terms. Says Iannucci, “he never held back and always spoke his mind. Tennis never saw that attitude until he came around. I admire how he did things his way and didn’t conform to anything. He stood for just being yourself, whether good or bad. There's honor in that.”
So it should come as no surprise that, when approached to put together a new Nike SB model, Gino opted for the Nike SB Challenge Court, a retooled version of the classic tennis shoe ideal for skaters.
A nylon mesh upper is trimmed with full-grain leather and incorporates an integral arch sock-liner and extended ankle collar. The foot is locked down with Variable Width Lacing System, while a drop-in Lunarlon midsole offers responsive cushioning without compromising board feel. Finally, the bi-level hobnail cupsole maximizes deck-grip.
A remarkable collision of past and present — classic style and innovation — look for the Nike SB Challenge Court release date on August 23rd, retailing for $80.
The Nike Air Foamposite One ParaNorman contest ends on 8/23, so why not take a few more looks at the wildly attractive, albeit uncommonly limited, shoe. The black Foamposite One sports volt smoking through the upper and glow-in-the-dark outsoles, with ParaNorman-specific detailing at the heel and tongue.
