So that Virginia Tech Gobblers helmet that the Hokies wore in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Friday, with the retro-inspired turkey silhouette and tapered triple-stripe against a violet (I know, I know, “Chicago maroon”) paint job? Yeah, that was awesome.

The special helmet, presumably inspired by the Hokies’ past life as the “Fighting Gobblers,” was the sixth (or so) lid the team donned this season, and also featured a ribbon decal on the back to honor the victims of the recent Sandy Hook tragedy and 2007′s Virginia Tech shooting. (A smaller version of the decal from their bowl-practice helmet.)

We’ve only seen a couple of Kobe 8 colorways hit retail thus far, but rest assured, there will be plenty of different styles over the next year or so. Case in point, here’s a look at a couple of new ones, the Nike Kobe 8 Home and Away. Each sports a tonal snakeskin print over the upper, matching up with a particular Lakers uniform — purple for the away look, grey/yellow for home. Stay tuned for release info.

Xavier debuted a new one-off kit on Saturday, a special set designed to pay tribute to the victims of the Newtown, CT tragedy.

The Xavier “Sandy Hook” uniforms completely forgo the Musketeers’ traditional branding and logos, instead featuring “Sandy Hook” on the chest, white and green coloring, and a new logo on the shorts.

Having been worn, the game-used “Sandy Hook” uniforms will now be auctioned off on GoXavier.com, with all proceeds benefiting the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. Go bid.

Upon a quick cursory glance, given an unlimited budget, you could easily drop about two grand on shoes releasing on December 31st alone, and that’s without stretching the definition of “like” at all. (LeBron Xs and Air Max 90s and KD Vs, oh my.) For example, the Nike Air Max 1 OG release date is set for New Year’s Eve day, and it’s just about as must-have as can be.

In this case, “OG” means exactly what you think. The Running/Sportswear icon returns in its most familiar look, with inset white mesh on the upper set against overlaying neutral grey and university red completing an absolutely classic aesthetic. You can very easily make the case for this being one of the best shoes of all time. As such, expect a quick sell-out.
