Instagram is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? So that Virginia Tech Gobblers helmet that the Hokies wore in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Friday, with the retro-inspired turkey silhouette and tapered triple-stripe against a violet (I know, I know, “Chicago maroon”) paint job? Yeah, that was awesome.
The special helmet, presumably inspired by the Hokies’ past life as the “Fighting Gobblers,” was the sixth (or so) lid the team donned this season, and also featured a ribbon decal on the back to honor the victims of the recent Sandy Hook tragedy and 2007′s Virginia Tech shooting. (A smaller version of the decal from their bowl-practice helmet.)
