Electrifying neons, pretty pastels, and bold accessories are proving to be some of the most popular trends this season, and nowhere is this more true than in China. We recently visited the Land of the Dragon, where we discovered fashionable locals putting an inspired, modern spin on classic sportswear everywhere we went. Stylist Alice Shi filled us in on all the details from the FOUND: China shoot.
What can you tell me about the current fashion landscape in China right now--what are the big trends happening there?
Shanghai girls have transformed the hottest international trends into a style that's truly their own. With one of the largest cities in the world as a backdrop, trends from all over are finding new ways to mix and match in Shanghai. Floral patterns, bold colors and retro accessories are out in full force, as Japanese and Korean styles are a huge inspiration. Throw in some classic Chinese style elements and the latest European trends, and Shanghai is sporting an evolved, worldly look, with a local twist.
Where in China were these photos shot? What is notable about this area?
We shot all over Shanghai. The city has a long history as an international port city, and that melting pot tradition is alive today in the city's large multicultural population. With so many countries represented in one city, every block offers a unique take on style.
